Records and Registration

Description

This record group includes class schedules, school bulletins, HEGIS reports and admissions studies. For the years 1915-1932 the school bulletins (catalogs) were distributed in the June Edinboro Quarterly. This was a publication of the Alumni Office and are included in that record group. They are included in this series as shared documents. This digital repository contains school catalogs and commencement programs., The earliest mention of the Office of Registrar is in the 1912-13 catalog for Edinboro State Normal School. It appears the duties of the registrar at this time did not include accepting tuition payments, as it did later. The 1913-14 catalog instructed that the President accepted payments on behalf of the board. Starting in the 1930s, the office accepted tuition payments, as well as did the scheduling. The registrar’s office and Dean of Instruction office were combined in 1938. The Fall 1981 student directory shows the Registrar’s office changing departments. Up to this time, the Registrar’s office had been under the head academic officer. As of Fall 1981, the Registrar was under the Dean of Graduate Studies and Academic Administration. In 1987, Graduate Studies separated from Academic Administration. The Registrar’s office stayed under Academic Administration. The title changed in 1991 to Coordinator of Scheduling and a new position was created for Coordinator of Records.

Council of Trustees, 1935-1941, 2003-2018

Description

Edinboro University has gone through a few significant changes in the manner in which it is governed. The school opened in 1857 with the financial backing of the community. Citizens of Edinboro who contributed were given a vote for members of the Board of Trustees. At the time, the Board was directly involved in many of the operations of the school from hiring to student discipline. In 1914, the state of Pennsylvania purchased the school from the stock holders. The Board then no longer elected by Edinboro citizens. When the school was designated a university in 1983, the Board of Trustees became the Council of Trustees. The print records date back to 1860 with handwritten minutes recorded in bound journals. The collection is primarily made up of minutes, but within the minutes of the early years is additional financial information. Personnel decisions and even decisions regarding student discipline are included in the early years. In 1983, the Board of Trustees became the Council of Trustees. Included for much of the 1980’s through 2007, are just the minutes. After this are included the entire packet that the trustees recieve. These include committee reports, financials and more.
